PHOTO BY JEFF KURRUS Prep Your Gear for Ice Fishing Throughout the month Statewide Before ice-up, make sure your gear is ready to go. Fisheries biologist Daryl Bauer recommends that you check that your hooks and auger blades are sharp, and take a look at your line. "Now is the time to replace monofi lament and fl uorocarbon lines," he says. "The 'super' lines last a lot longer, but if you are using any of those for ice fi shing you may want to fi ll spools or replace those lines as well." Also, take inventory of your other ice fi shing gear – outerwear, sleds, creepers, skimmers, heaters, pliers, etc. – and make sure you are good to go, making repairs and modifi cations as necessary, Bauer added.
