On June 9, Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center will host
a Let's Go Birding Together program designed to bring people
together to explore nature, birds and conservation. Jason
St. Sauver, education and outreach director at Spring Creek,
points out that "It is important to recognize that these
events are for everyone, but it is also an invitation to the
LGBTQ community that they are welcome to come and feel
comfortable to be themselves at this event."
The program, which started in 2017, has been successful,
according to St. Sauver, with 75 percent of participants
visiting Spring Creek for the first time. Four of those
participants have gone on to become active volunteers with
the center. Audubon took the Let's Go Birding Together
program national in 2018 with more than 15 programs in
seven states, and St. Sauver hopes to bring even more people
together to connect to the outdoors.
The June 9 event begins at 10 a.m., starting with a bird
walk followed by brunch. Event details for national Let's Go
Birding Together events will be available at audubon.org.
