July 2019 • Nebraskaland 29 What To Do in July Participate in the Nebraska Bumble Bee Atlas July through September | Statewide You've heard about struggling pollinators and some of the threats they face. The same story is playing in Nebraska with our native bees, including some of our beloved bumblebees. This summer, the Xerces Society is launching a project to help track these essential pollinators and preserve them. Participants will adopt locations and then conduct surveys for bumblebees throughout the state. Stay tuned to nebraskabumblebeeatlas.org for details about upcoming events and how to register. Fish for White Bass and Wipers Throughout the month | Statewide where populations can be found Fishing for white bass and wipers can be good in July and August. Go early and late in the day, and be ready: when it happens, feeding can be intense, but doesn't last long. Target the larger reservoirs, such as Calamus, Sherman and Lake McConaughy. Attend the Nebraska Star Party July 28-August 2 | Merritt Reservoir State Recreation Area Merritt Reservoir is one of the best places for stargazing in the nation, and the annual Nebraska Star Party provides the perfect opportunity to enjoy it. The Star Party includes introductory classes for newcomers, a children's program, observing challenges, a photography contest and food. Learn more and register at nebraskastarparty.org.
