What To Do in July
Participate in the Nebraska
Bumble Bee Atlas
July through September | Statewide
You've heard about struggling pollinators and some of the
threats they face. The same story is playing in Nebraska with
our native bees, including some of our beloved bumblebees. This
summer, the Xerces Society is launching a project to help track
these essential pollinators and preserve them. Participants
will adopt locations and then conduct surveys for bumblebees
throughout the state. Stay tuned to nebraskabumblebeeatlas.org
for details about upcoming events and how to register.
Fish for White Bass
and Wipers
Throughout the month | Statewide
where populations can be found
Fishing for white bass and wipers can be
good in July and August. Go early and late
in the day, and be ready: when it happens,
feeding can be intense, but doesn't last
long. Target the larger reservoirs, such as
Calamus, Sherman and Lake McConaughy.
Attend the Nebraska
Star Party
July 28-August 2 | Merritt Reservoir
State Recreation Area
Merritt Reservoir is one of the best places
for stargazing in the nation, and the annual
Nebraska Star Party provides the perfect
opportunity to enjoy it. The Star Party
includes introductory classes for newcomers,
a children's program, observing challenges,
a photography contest and food. Learn more
and register at nebraskastarparty.org.
