PORTRAITS FROM THE PAST
Taken in 1979 while pheasant hunting southwest of Elwood. Both shotguns are 12 gauges,
one Remington 870 and one Winchester Model 12. Darwin and Darold Nielsen were from
Stapleton. The coyote was sold whole for $25. The pickup is a 1970 F100 Ford Sport Custom
with Winnebago topper.
From left: Darold Nielsen, Kearney; Troy Nielsen, Kearney; Jeff Nielsen, Wheat Ridge,
Colorado; Mitch Nielsen, Lakewood, Colorado (with coyote).
– Jeff Nielsen, Wheat Ridge, Colorado
Taken in February 1969
from the heydays of Ninemile
Creek in Scotts Bluff County.
I know I always tried to fish
on two specific dates – New
Year's Day and Super Bowl
Sunday – rarely encountering
another angler.
– Leo Turner, Lisco
