Look for this large sparrow in plum thickets along rural roads or in brushy areas on the edges of woodlands. Harris's sparrows respond especially well to "pishing," or imitating a bird's "psh-psh-psh" call to draw them out of the brush. If you're not easily embarrassed, give it a try! Go waterfowl hunting in Harlan County Throughout the month A stopover for migrating birds, Harlan County off ers good waterfowl hunting opportunities. For best success, scout ahead of time to fi nd where birds are likely to roost and feed, and set up your decoy spread to mimic the activity you see. Hunting the backwater areas of Harlan County Reservoir may give you an excellent chance at getting closer to birds. The park's two scavenger hunts, with a history and nature focus, will take you throughout the grounds looking for answers, watching videos via QR code, and noticing things you might not otherwise. Pick up the scavenger hunt sheets at the fort's west gate.
