66 Nebraskaland • April 2021 Annually, for more than 11 years, approximately 2,000 fourth- and fi fth- grade students travel to Platte River State Park for the Outdoor Discovery Program. This program is designed to enhance students' knowledge and ethical understanding of wildlife and the outdoors; encourage health and wellness by promoting active outdoor lifestyles; and engage students in fun interactive activities. It is one of three such events, with others being at Fort Kearny State Historical Park and Wildcat Hills State Recreation Area. Activities include, but are not limited to, kayaking, fi shing, archery, outdoor cooking and birdwatching. Hundreds of volunteers and partner organizations make this event possible. The 2021 event will be virtual, however. It will return to the park in 2022. outdoor discovery day
