THE LAST STOP
By Jim Swenson, Nebraska Game and Parks Commission Administrator of Parks
A FORTUNATE LIFE
Initially the task seemed simple. Find a favorite photo,
describe its meaning. But a single image, one moment in time,
could not capture the signifi cance of a lifetime of enjoyment
outside in Nebraska's tremendous state parks.
My solution: a collection of snapshots and trinkets pulled
from my offi ce walls and shelves. Images and treasures that
defl ect the distractions of a busy world, reminding me who I
am, tempering my commitment to family, an agency mission,
and a team of passionate gatekeepers for Nebraska's state
park resources.
I am a fortunate son, raised by family that found every
opportunity to enjoy the outdoors; I am grateful. A lifetime
rich in outdoor experiences enticed me along a pleasure-fi lled
career pathway, my steps guided by many caring friends,
coworkers and mentors. I now share those experiences in the
company of kids and grandkids.
Many of "my memories, my adventures" originated in the
very parks that belong to you. Our Game and Parks team
encourages you to "think outside" and recognize that parks
are "gateways into the outdoors."
We invite you to fi nd a park, step through the gate and
develop "Your Memories," discover "Your Adventures" and
enjoy "Your Parks."
Because time outdoors is time well spent.
