ugene T. Mahoney State Park is busy.
Really busy. Whether you're on the disc
golf course, CenturyLink Lake or the
Family Aquatic Center, you won't be alone.
People will be in every direction. And this is
exactly why you should experience it.
Because this state park is an experience.
Since 1995, Mahoney has been Nebraska's
most-visited outdoor destination, and for good
reason. There is always something new to visit.
The latest installments are the Go Ape Treetop
Adventure ropes course, indoor rock-climbing
wall and the toboggan run. But there will
always be more.
Which is why you should come again. The
version of Mahoney you visited last summer
is not the same. Personally, I live 15 minutes
away and feel like I spend half my summer in
this park, but I most recently noticed bicycles
for rent near the World-Herald Row of cabins.
My kids haven't experienced the Monkey
Drop portion of the Go Ape ropes course or hiked
through the forest.
They also haven't stayed in one of the park's
eight mini-lodges, hit a bucket of balls on the
driving range or ridden horses.
In due time, they'll experience all of these
things. In the meantime, they'll continue doing
what they've done for years, occasionally
standing in line for an activity that is totally
worth the wait, or growing impatient enough
to look in a diff erent direction for a day, or
night, of fun.
They'll have plenty of options.
