June 2021 • Nebraskaland 69 Dead Timber 1955. A field trip to Dead Timber State Recreation Area back in 1955. District 36, taught by Miss Marion Terkildsen, took students (pictured): Gary Suhr; Rodney Ahrndt; Glen Suhr (myself); and Ruth Spaulding. The hills surrounding the lake were challenging to climb. The swinging bridge was a treat and the shelter was relaxing. Always a fun day. – Glen Suhr, Scribner Rock Creek Station Historical State Park 1985. This picture was taken not long after the park was open for camping. Note the lack of trees. After an afternoon of hiking the park, we took a break on the logs. Top: Sara Perau and Lori Wolfe. Seated: Brad, Blaine, and Rose Perau; Mark Wolfe (me); Max, the dog; Linda and Jim Schmersal. My wife, Marge, took the picture. Our three families have camped together for more than 35 years. – Mark Wolfe, Lincoln
