Rose Creek Mausoleum Story and photos by Eric Fowler An arched doorway, 6½ feet high, 4 feet wide and more than 2 feet deep, marks the entrance to McDowell's Tomb in the cliff above Rose Creek. Tucked away in a sandstone outcropping in Jefferson County is an oddity that will amaze anyone who visits: a rock-cut tomb carved by hand a century ago.
