28 Nebraskaland • December 2021 Outdoor Nebraska By Renae Blum In between holiday shopping and family get-togethers, make sure to add some outdoor fun to your schedule. These activities may be just the breather you and your family need. N Take pictures at Chadron State Park Year-round | Chadron Nestled in the distinctive buttes and canyons of Nebraska's Pine Ridge, Chadron State Park is a lovely place to pursue winter photography, with or without snow. Between the trails in the park and on the adjacent Nebraska National Forest, there's more than 100 miles of trails and old roads to explore. JUSTIN HAAG, NEBRASKALAND View eagles and waterfowl All month | Statewide This month, take the opportunity to view eagles and waterfowl in person, which can be spotted on large bodies of open water. Good locations include Carter Lake, Lewis and Clark Lake, Lake McConaughy, Lake Ogallala, Harlan County Reservoir and DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge. Pick a time when the water isn't frozen or iced over, and make sure to bring your binoculars or spotting scopes. BOB GRIER, NEBRASKALAND
