A Fly-fishing Primer
Another Hobby
By Jeff Kurrus
ly-fi shing often gets a bad rap, accused of having too many accoutrements
and being too pricy. Yet a bare bones, Walmart rod-reel combo costs less
than $50, and some of the other supplies can be found around the
house. If you talk to an experienced fl y angler, more specifi cally a fl y
tier, you'll probably walk away with enough fl ies to last you several
trips. And the casting is nothing more than practice. Pull the fl y
hard off the water above your head, wait long enough to allow
the line to straighten behind you, then gently move your
arm back forward to cast your fl y. Before long, you'll be
casting as far as you want.
Until then, take a look at this checklist.
