PORTRAITS FROM THE PAST
Atkinson Pheasant Hunt,
1980.
This picture was taken
in Atkinson (Holt County)
on opening day of pheasant
season in 1980.
Front Row: Bryan
Slaymaker, Ray Shaffer, Troy
Shaffer and Claire Beck.
Back Row: Larry Ries,
Roger Ries, Harry Morgan
and Dean Gotschall.
My dad, Larry Ries, has
kept this picture tucked
away for a long time. Two
of the men in the picture are
no longer living, so this is a
very cherished memory. This
was one of Bryan's first big
pheasant hunts.
Dad gets Nebraskaland
and shares it with all of us
kids and grandkids. We love
this magazine!

Deer Hunt South of Worms, 1953.
This photo was taken on Harold
Luebbe's property south of Worms
after a successful deer hunt in
1953. The hunters were Arnold
Luebbe, Bill Stolle and Bill Carter,
all of Grand Island. Posing with the
game were Conni (Stolle) Bales,
now of Omaha and Barb (Luebbe)
Sander, now of Holdrege.
Arnold Luebbe was my wife's
uncle, and Harold was her dad.
