A Guide to the I-80 Lakes • Fishing the Interstate Amenities: Primitive boat ramp. Directions: From Exit 222 at Cozad, go a half mile north on Highway 21 to West 2nd Street. Turn left and go 0.25 miles west, then turn right on Road 225 and go 0.25 miles north. Turn left on West Railroad Street and go 1 mile west, then turn left and go 1 mile south on Road 419, crossing the I-80 overpass to the lake. GPS coordinates: 40.855432, -100.012030 Cozad WMA This area has an 18-acre lake and Platte River access. Fish species: Largemouth bass, bluegill, channel catfi sh, common carp, yellow perch, rock bass. Amenities: Articulated mat concrete boat ramp. Directions: From Exit 222 at Cozad, go south on Highway 21 a short distance to the fi rst left turn. GPS coordinates: 40.840620, -99.985152 Johnson Lake SRA Private homes around this 2,189- acre lake limit shoreline access, but bank anglers still can fi nd good fi shing for walleye, white bass, and some big channel catfi sh. The inlet on the west side can be especially productive. Two accessible fi shing piers are available along with near-water sidewalks designed for angling. Near the inlet, a breakwater has been retrofi tted with bank angler access features. Fish species: Flathead catfi sh, channel catfi sh, crappie, walleye, sauger, white bass, wiper, smallmouth bass, freshwater drum, common carp, paddlefi sh, bluegill. Amenities: Concrete boat ramp at the inlet, fi sh-cleaning stations at the inlet and outlet, modern restrooms, pit toilets. The Tri-County Supply Canal snakes through the fl ooded canyons at the inlet to Jeff rey Reservoir in Lincoln County. ERIC FOWLER, NEBRASKALAND
