No one wants a blowout while driving, for example. Some aspiring public relations fi rm could surely come up with a more positive way to refer to these little wildlife havens. Sand bowls? Wind scoops? Toad nooks? You get the idea. N Bandwing grasshoppers are well-camoufl aged against bare sand. The aptly-named big sand tiger beetle is just one of many predators that hunt in blowouts.
