Opportunities this month include fi shing, hunting, looking for wildfl owers and enjoying unique lodging. N Listen for boreal chorus frogs calling Mid-March through summer | Statewide Boreal chorus frogs, which are brown and green with stripes running through their eyes and down their backs, are one of the fi rst frogs to start calling in the spring. Their call has been described as someone running their fi ngers over a fi ne-toothed comb. These frogs are usually in large groups, making the sound deafening, with hundreds calling at once. Look and listen for these frogs near ponds, road ditches, lakes and wetlands. JUSTIN HAAG, NEBRASKALAND Fish for white bass Mid- to late April | Statewide You can fi nd some good fi shing for white bass in several larger reservoirs in the state, such as Harlan and Calamus. Other good spots include Davis Creek inlets and Sutherland, Sherman and Minatare reservoirs. In April, white bass are heading for shallow water, with spawning beginning in late April.
