May 2023 • Nebraskaland 31 What to Do in May Fort Kearny Outdoor Expo May 13 | Fort Kearny State Recreation Area This fun event gives people of all ages and experience levels the chance to try their hand at archery, shooting sports, kayaking, rock climbing, fi shing and many other outdoor activities. Additionally, various exhibits give visitors the chance to see Nebraska fi sh and wildlife species up close. While a park permit is required, all activities are off ered free of charge. JULIE GEISER, NEBRASKALAND Put out hummingbird feeders All month | Primarily eastern Nebraska It's spring migration season for hummingbirds, so now is a good time to put out a feeder. A few things to remember: Clean the feeder every two to four days, consider buying an ant moat, and avoid pre-made nectar mixes with red dye. Instead, make your own, boiling water and adding sugar until you have a mixture that is four parts water, one part sugar. Store in the fridge.
