48 Nebraskaland • March 2024 MIXED BAG Everyone does it. I know I do. "Hold the fish up and smile." The picture is taken, and then we add it to the long line of photos that look exactly the same. Strive for a bit more with your photography this season during your fishing trips through Nebraska. It only takes five minutes away from your fishing to add something creative to your portfolio. Here are a few options. New Angle Bag shots are unavoidable, but take an extra second or two to lower or raise your camera angle to create something unique from the rest of your images. No fish is needed to make an interesting photo, but the presence of one sure doesn't hurt. Show the Day Take a quick walk away from your partner when the light is at its most stunning, and photograph the day. You'll be back fishing as soon as that gorgeous sky changes. While You're Away Before you climb back in the boat, capture a photo or two of your partner fishing. If you get lucky, a fish on the line is a bonus. Tackle Me Rods, reels and other gear make great photo subjects. These images are great conversation starters years later when you see them again. Just the Fish Close-ups of fish in the hand are a great mix to a photo spread. Again, search for unique angles to compliment the traditional grip-and-grin bag shot. FEWER GRIP-AND-GRINS Story and photos by Jeff Kurrus Take a few steps back to capture the day. Tackle boxes and other gear make great photo subjects. Lower or raise your camera angle for a unique picture. Take a picture of your partner before climbing in your boat.
