Antelope hunt south of Lodgepole, 1980
This is a photo of me, Lynn Gray (left), my good friend Steve Jessen (right) and our scout and guide for the hunt Steve's dad,
Henry "Hank" Jessen, with two antelope we shot south of Lodgepole.
I left Omaha on a September Friday afternoon after working on the then-new Methodist Hospital in Omaha and met up
with Steve in Lincoln for the 300-mile drive to his parents' home in Chappell. Steve's mother, Joyce, taught school in Chappell,
and his dad farmed north of Lodgepole. When we arrived, Hank gave us a scouting report of antelope he had seen recently and
also information he had gathered talking to other area farmers, probably over coffee. We were fortunate to find our antelope
Saturday morning. I had a Winchester Model 94 lever action carbine. We also spent an afternoon fishing at Lake Ogallala
below Lake McConaughy. Steve and his parents are now gone, but I have so many good memories of the trip.
