Duck hunt the High Plains
Season dates vary by zone | Western Nebraska
Waterfowl hunting in Nebraska is almost a religion, and October sees the regular
season open in all four of the state's duck zones. This month can be a great time
to witness the early migrating prairie ducks that can include gadwall, teal, ring-
necks, wigeon and even some early mallards. Spending time scouting and fi nding
the hidden water holes is key this time of the year. A good number of camo-clad
hunters will make the pilgrimage to the High Plains area of western Nebraska each
year; Clear Creek Wildlife Management Area, with more than 6,100 acres, has room
to explore. Be aware of special boundaries and hunting areas that come into play in
November.
