JUSTIN HAAG, NEBRASKALAND Call raccoons Late December and early January | Statewide On beautiful, sunny mornings when the thermometer climbs above freezing, calling raccoons can provide some excitement. Action is best after calm nights when temperatures stay above 20 degrees. Use electronic calls that mimic young or fi ghting raccoons and look for locations with den trees — usually larger trees with hollows in them. Call on the opposite side of the hollow opening to bring the raccoon fully out. If you don't see any raccoons in 4-5 minutes, move to the next likely spot. MIKE FORSBERG, NEBRASKALAND
