34 Nebraskaland • January-February 2025 Outdoor Nebraska By Renae Blum You don't have to wait for warmer weather to have fun outdoors. Put on a few extra layers and enjoy activities like ice-fi shing, snowshoeing and park events. N Go snowshoeing at Fort Robinson State Park As weather allows | 3.8 miles southwest of Crawford Don't let snow stop you from enjoying a walk outdoors — go snowshoeing! Fort Robinson State Park, with its natural beauty and numerous miles of hiking trails, is an excellent location for this. Try the 3-mile White River Trail for an easier route. Those looking for a challenge can venture into the Red Cloud and Cheyenne Butte trails. The park has no lodging this time of year, but you can fi nd Airbnbs nearby, and Crawford has a small motel. Watch the weather and call the park ahead of your visit. GETTY IMAGES Crow hunting Season is Jan. 11 – March 13 | Statewide Sharpen your shooting skills with crow season, which is particularly good in February or late winter. Crow hunting is great for youth and allows you to get more hunting in if you're having a slow day hunting waterfowl. Use a "crow fi ght" sound on your electronic call, and place it 100 to 200 feet away from you. Point the speaker on the caller straight up in the air; the birds will circle that area.
