IN THE FIELD
One day each year, it's free to try out fishing and making
new memories at a state park or state recreation area. This
year, Free Fishing and Park Entry Day will be May 17.
Maybe you have never fished before and don't want to take
the plunge of buying a permit until you test the waters first.
This day gives you the opportunity to see if fishing is in your
future. Also, many parks across the state host free fishing
events, providing gear, so you can wet a line without having
to invest in tackle.
Even if you don't catch anything or aren't interested in
fishing, come share a laugh with family or friends, catch
a toad along a muddy bank or enjoy the fresh air and
sunshine to kick off the new park season.
With nearly 80 state parks and state recreation areas in
Nebraska, chances are you won't have to travel far to find a
great place to visit. Go for a drive, hike a trail, learn history,
have a picnic or play games. There are many ways to enjoy a
day outside.
