N Forage for wild asparagus Late April through May; prime time is mid- to late-May statewide Boasting a fresher, more vibrant fl avor, wild asparagus is a popular spring edible in Nebraska. It prefers sunny, moist spots near water in rich saline or alkaline soil. Try searching irrigation canals, ditches, waterways, roadsides, fencerows and pastures or meadows — even old homesteads or farmsteads. Always get landowner permission and remember foraging for wild asparagus isn't permitted at Nebraska Game and Parks properties. Search "Stalking Wild Asparagus" at Magazine. JENNY NGUYEN-WHEATLEY, NEBRASKALAND Bring your horse on a spring trail ride May 10, 9 a.m. MT | Enders Reservoir State Recreation Area You may have heard of Enders' Fall Trail Ride, but did you know it's a spring occurrence, too? Bring your horse, meet other horse enthusiasts and experience the beauty of Enders in spring, from greening trees to new wildlife. Riders can also take in lake views and a scenic landscape of rolling hills. Call the park offi ce to register at 308-394-5118.
