Pheasant hunting in Harlan County, 1990
Pictured from left: Bill Applebee (me), Jim Applebee (my brother) and Vachel Applebee (my father). My father passed away
in October 2021. We have many fond memories of pheasant hunting in Harlan and Franklin counties.

Deer hunting in the Oak Canyons, 1998
This picture was taken in November 1998 northeast
of Ord, Nebraska in the oak canyons. The way this
scenario played out my dad was able to harvest
this buck with an incredible free hand shot, which
in the canyons is very rare for us to do. He is using
his trusted Model 70 Winchester .270 he purchased
in 1977 and still uses to this day. I was 11 in this
photograph and was anxiously awaiting next
year's season as I knew next year I would be able
to complete my training and carry a rifle. My dad is
now 70 and I am 38, and I still look forward to deer
hunting together every year.
