Or e-mail: Tim.Reigert@Nebraska.gov with "Visitor" in the subject line of the message. HINT: This issue's visitor is not on page 8, 9, 11, 14, 19 or 47. Bugguide.net is a good site for identification. Send Us Your Trail Cam Photos! "Not that an elk in Nebraska is odd," wrote Chad Marsh, "but the fact that this was in Antelope County is." He also saw him several times while deer hunting. Please submit your trail camera photos by e-mail to: nebtrailcam@gmail.com. Also include where you're from and any information that will help explain your photo. This small, light brownish- yellow moth with pink bands on its wings is the chickweed geometer, Haematopsis grataria. It is a common moth in Nebraska, and adults can be found flying from May through October. The large feathery antennae tell us it is a male moth; the antennae of females are threadlike. Geometer caterpillars are called inchworms, and move by pulling their rear segment up to their front legs, forming a loop, and then extending the body forward. These caterpillars feed on a variety of plants, including chickweed and knotweed, and are not considered to be pests. There are multiple generations each summer, with the last generation overwintering in the pupa stage. Special thanks to Julie Van Meter, State Entomologist, Nebraska Department of Agriculture.
