Bet You've Never Seen This Before My cousin, his son and I were up pheasant and grouse hunting in Box Butte County and saw a young deer when we first started walking a tree row. It never ran but insisted on following us as we walked. We stopped about 100 yards into the tree row and the deer walked right up to us. The dog in the picture is my hunting yellow Lab. The deer jumped around with the dog, playing and running around for a good 10 minutes. Then the deer walked up to my cousin Bayden and he petted it for a while. We then continued walking the tree row and the deer followed us to the end and then back to the truck! It was a pretty cool thing to see. My cousin named the deer Buckmaster. Chris Patin Ogallala, Nebraska Visitor Letters I am a transplanted Nebraskan that lives with my wife and family in Ridgecrest, CA, near Death Valley. I always look forward to your magazine and enjoy the pictures and articles very much. We enjoy family reunions at Fort Robinson and visit family in Bellevue and Omaha almost annually. NEBRASKAland Magazine always elicits a comment or two of "... and why do we live out here and not back there?" from someone in our family! As I searched the magazine this month, I think the visitor bug is on page 49. It looks like a tan moth laid out with the rocks and bones in the photo that highlights Roger Welsch's article. I hope I am right and in time, I would love to use one of those NEBRASKAland coffee mugs at work! Thanks for a great magazine, Mark Nazeck Ridgecrest, California Marian Ball of Arlington shared a photo of her husband, Dennis, with a couple of 14-inch crappies from Lake Wanahoo. Marian Ball of Arlington shared a photo Lincoln photographer Chris Masada shot this lunar eclipse, or "blood moon," photo at 3 am on April 14. There will be another blood moon on October 8 of this year, followed by one on April 4 and September 28, 2015. Mike Gould found this pair of red fox kits in his tractor shed in North Platte. Trophy Fishing in Nebraska I'm a native Nebraskan who grew up in Loomis, and now lives in West Omaha. I went fishing with a friend on April 22 and in a span of 30 minutes, we had landed the two biggest largemouth I'd personally seen caught in Nebraska in my 30 years of fishing. One was 21.5 inches and the second was 22.5. We didn't weigh either, we released both back immediately into the private pond we were fishing. It was a very fun day of Nebraska fishing, and proof that Nebraska fisheries can produce the kind of trophy bass that you commonly see in Texas and the Southern states.
