home base, whether for fishing
or hunting, must have all the
qualities of home, which is
why the southeastern Nebraska town
of Tecumseh is the perfect for spring snow
goose hunting.
Located about an hour and a half northwest
of Missouri's Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge, this area
of the state is a stopover point for thousands of
snow geese each spring.
It's also home to a number of eateries, including Frazier's Cafe,
serving delicious home-cooked meals, including the cod fish dinner or
the local favorite, chicken-fried steak.
Walk along the old bricks of the historic downtown town square
to see the Johnson County Courthouse. The Romanesque, Classic
Revival-style building was completed in 1889 and is listed on the
National Register of Historic Places.
Continue your step through time at the Ramsey Family Fountain,
a restored 1938 soda fountain complete with antique furnishings.
It specializes in old-fashioned frozen favorites and has a unique
photographic tribute to the Johnson County veterans.
Bring home a gift from Liz's Flower Shop, which features a wide
assortment of home decor, and visit southeast Nebraska's oldest
floral shop, Tecumseh Floral and Gift, established in 1950.
Then get back on the road to find snows. With a conservation
season that doesn't close until April 15 in the east zone,
Tecumseh becomes the
perfect home base for
taking an occasional
break during your trip down
south.
