14 NEBRASKAland • APRIL 2015 PHOTO BY JULIE GEISER Nebraska's Largest Outdoor Classroom By Cara Pesek Learn to shoot a bow and arrow, climb a mountain, paddle a kayak and much more May 9 during the Fort Kearny Outdoor Expo at Fort Kearny State Recreation Area. This annual event, often referred to as Nebraska's largest outdoor classroom, offers dozens of outdoor activities for youth and families free of charge. Children and adults will be able to try shooting sports, kayaking, bank fishing, archery, assorted camping games, outdoor cooking, bow fishing, slingshot shooting and rock climbing. Game and Parks staff will give demonstrations including Dutch oven cooking, setting up a campsite and fishing demonstrations, and there will be adventure hunts, contests and food vendors, too.
