Work was completed in December on a 20-acre backwater on the Missouri River at Indian Cave State Park near Schubert. The U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers' project will provide shallow water habitat for endangered pallid sturgeon, and also provide calm water for
visitors to fish, a nice option to the swift waters of the Missouri. Anglers can expect to catch flathead and channel catfish, bluegills,
crappies, largemouth bass, carp and other fish in the backwater, which is 3,000 feet long, 50 to 250 feet wide, and 5 to 15 feet deep.
