OCTOBER 2015 • NEBRASKAland 29 the month, burr oaks along the forested bluffs of the Platte and Missouri rivers in eastern Nebraska have begun to turn dusty brown, with red and black oaks adding spots of red. Mother Nature's painting may be more vibrant one year than the next. If she so chooses, it might remain on display into November. Or she might send a chill down from the north, erasing the color and leaving the slate clean for the year to come. Enjoy fall while it lasts. It's never long enough. ■
