ork with your veterinarian to customize a
first-aid kit that is right for your dog and your
style of hunting. Here are some items that you may
want to have in your kit:
Instruments: hemostat/needle nose pliers, thumb
forceps/tweezers, scissors, toenail clippers,
thermometer, skin stapler, metal comb
Cleansers and Antibiotics: antiseptic solution
(saline o r diluted chlorhexidine), eyewash (saline
solution), eye ointment, antibiotic ointment
Dressing/Bandages: gauze pads/rolls, cast
padding, nonstick pads (Telfa), first-aid waterproof
adhesive tape, vet wrap, elastic wrap (Elastikon)
Other Items: muzzle, medical gloves, anesthetic
for wound suturing (Lidocaine) and hypodermic
needles, anesthetic for eyes (proparacaine drops),
newspaper/magazine for splinting, antihistamine for
insect bites/stings and weed allergies ■
