NEBRASKAland Magazine's • A YEAR OUTDOORS
MARCH
Early March
•
Retrieve your rod and reel as
catfishing begins in reservoirs after
ice-out. Fish deadbait with winter-
killed gizzard shad you can pick
up from windswept shorelines,
especially from a north-facing
side on a warm spring day, or
in the upper ends of reservoirs
where shallow water warms
the quickest. Top spots include
Lake McConaughy and Calamus
Reservoir, but any reservoir can be
productive. Check out the fishing
forecast at Outdoornebraska.org to
find the ones with the best catfish
populations.
