A delicate perennial growing from a shallow, scaly bulb, all parts of the violet wood sorrel (Oxalis violacea) are edible, raw or cooked. The Omaha and Ponca tribes called the plant "hade- sathe," meaning sour herb. The plant contains oxalic acid, imparting a tart taste. APRIL 2017 • NEBRASKAland 27
