March 2026 • Nebraskaland 61 Trolling at Lake McConaughy, Late 1990s In the picture is my daughter, Julie; dad, Bill; and mom, Lucy. Dad and I were trolling near Sandy Beach on the north side of the lake. Dad caught a pretty big fish. He thought it was a catfish because it wasn't fighting much. As he got the fish near the boat, it was this 8½-pound walleye! – Ray Carr, Raymond Sandhills geese, 1989 This picture was from the days of the Sandhills Canada Goose Season. A special free permit was required, and the limit was one goose per season. In the picture, from left: Joe Francis, Scott Schroth, Marv Adamson and me. The dog was Joe's yellow Lab, Rye, who made quick work of retrieving birds from the tough cover of the Adamson's marsh in Cherry County. – Douglas Harris, Lincoln
