Outdoor
By Jeff Kurrus
The most difficult part about May is deciding
what to do. From all parts of the state this month
the outdoors calls in so many directions. Just make
sure you listen.

Get to a
Bluegill Bed
May | Statewide
Bluegill beds are prime locations
for catching gillies this month. Big,
colorful males will be guarding eggs
deposited by females and will strike
at a variety of lures and baits — from
popping bugs casted from a fly rod to a
worm and bobber.
Beds can be found in shallow water
and are often visible right beneath the
surface. Catch fish on the outer beds
first before working into shallower
water. Whether fishing from bank or
boat, keep your distance to assure fish
don't spook.
