Loup City pheasant hunt, ca. 1927
My great-great-uncle Will Stricker, left, poses with four other hunters, unknown, in the
Frederick Hotel in Loup City after a pheasant hunt. I believe this is one of the first years
pheasants could be hunted in Nebraska. The first pheasant hunt was a three-day season in
1927 in Wheeler County and certain parts of Sherman County, which is where Loup City is
located. The bag limit at that time was five birds, and the five men shot 25 birds. If anyone
knows the identity of the other hunters, please reach out.

Coon hunting, 1977
That fall, my dad, C. Walter Korte
(left), and I hunted coons with his
white German shepherd and purebred
Norwegian elkhound. The coons were
sold to Smeal's Hide and Fur Co. in
Scribner for $24 each.
