June 2026 • Nebraskaland 63 By Eric Fowler Winners of NEBRASKAland's first photo contest were announced. The contest continued for two years, then was discontinued until 2014's Beautiful Nebraska. The reestablished contest continues today. NEBRASKAland began publishing 11 times per year, with a combined January/ February edition. NEBRASKAland's youth magazine, Trail Tales, launched, with four 16-page issues per school year. It is sent to every fourth- grade classroom in the state. Nebraskaland changed its masthead to its current typographic style. Since its inception in 1926, Nebraskaland Magazine has featured more than 70 masthead changes. Between March and June, the magazine's name changed from Outdoor Nebraska to Outdoor NEBRASKAland before settling on NEBRASKAland. An 8-page color section also was added. With this issue, NEBRASKAland began publishing 10 times per year. The first "Special Issue," a book-length publication on a single topic — Portrait of the Plains, was published. Twenty-nine specials have been published since then, the last one being "100 Years of Nebraska State Parks" in 2021.
