Forever and the Natural Resources Conservation Service,
my family and I completed a wetland restoration project
on our property in Brown County.
In 2024, we installed a water-control structure and
repaired the levees around our ponds, removed invasive
trees and excavated sediment deposited in our slough
channels along Plum Creek to enhance the habitat for
migratory birds, native fish and other wildlife.
We were excited to see how wildlife would respond, but
living several hours away created obvious challenges. My
kids and I decided to set up a trail camera on one of the
wetlands to keep tabs on the activity from home.
First and foremost, the camera has been a great scouting
tool for waterfowl hunting, but the variety of wildlife
using our property has been absolutely amazing. Plus, it's
another outdoor activity to do with my kids.
