It's a two-for-one weekend, and in southwestern Nebraska, that's an easy
task. Less than 40 minutes from each other, Sutherland Reservoir and Lake
Maloney state recreation areas offer anything an outdoor family could
desire — regardless of the time of year or the activity.
These two reservoirs were built as part of a public power and irrigation
project for water storage, hydroelectric power and irrigation for central
Nebraska known as the Sutherland Project — and they provide recreation
of all kinds.
