October 2026 • Nebraskaland 63 Mixed Bag Hunt in the Pine Ridge, 1960s This is a picture of my father, William "Bill" Hudson and John Kurtz of Crawford, and their take of pheasants and jackrabbits in the Pine Ridge area. This picture and article appeared in Outdoor Nebraska, now known as Nebraskaland magazine, in 1961. My father was an avid outdoorsman who taught his children the same lifestyle. At this time, he was the mayor of Crawford and was later known for the early development of the Hudson-Meng Education and Research Center north of Crawford. – Michael Hudson, Lake Havasu City, Arizona Trap Shoot, 1920s This is a picture of my grandfather, John Wertz (far left), and four other top shooters at a trap shoot. The man on the far right, Miles Maryott from Oshkosh, was a man of many talents. He was a skilled wildlife artist, taxidermist, marksman, outdoorsman and professional baseball player. He also killed the marshal of Oshkosh during a shootout in 1926. – Jim Wertz, Paxton
