Pheasant and Quail Hunting, 1958.
Three of my long-time hunting buddies during
our senior year at Beatrice High School. Many
a weekend Norman Holdiman, Darrell Feit and
Albert Van Borkum hunted pheasant and quail
near Burchard.
I married Norman's sister. Darrell went on
to work for the Nebraska Game and Parks
Commission and retired as the director of the
Aksarben Aquarium. Van Borkum opened Van's
Lakeview Fishing Camp at Lake McConaughy.

Deer Hunt, 1979.
My wife of now 51 years, Kathy, and me with
a mule deer from Custer County in 1979. My
hunting buddy, Duane McCan, and I traveled
from Lexington and archery hunted this buck the
day before the rifle season. He used his antlers
to move his does away from us. Kathy joined us
the next day when I shot him. We had the deer
mounted and moved it with us to Alaska and
later Washington state. Kathy and I retired in
Utah. Duane, now of Kearney, and I still hunt this
area annually.

Hunting Day, 1994.
We invited my brother-in-law from Dallas, Texas, Richard
Adams, to go goose hunting at the Calamus Lake in Burwell,
Nebraska. We hunted from a boat blind with Lloyd Ness as
chief cook and Rick Gilbertson as boat captain.
Richard took a shot directly overhead and dropped a near
20-pound goose almost in the boat blind. It actually clipped
the bill of my cap as it fell.
Later, Richard had to return to Dallas early and on the
way to the Omaha airport, he told his wife Cheri, "There
are things you do in life you never forget, and this is one of
them!"
Welcome to waterfowling in Nebraska!
