PORTRAITS FROM THE PAST
Pheasant Hunt near Henderson,
York County, 1980
Hunting pheasants around Henderson
Nebraska in 1980 — back when the Big 8
was a powerful football conference.
Pictured from left is Stan (me) with my
Buffaloes shirt, John Martens and Wes
Friesen cheering on our beloved Huskers.
Prior to 1962, I lived in Emerson and
Allen. I grew up out here in Fort Morgan,
Colorado, before moving to Thornton in
metro Denver.
My friends and I loved hunting
pheasants and cheering on our football
teams, razzing each other about missed
shots and football games.

Fishing near Eustis, Frontier County,
circa 1950
At right is my great-grandfather, A.T.
Wilson, who arrived in Nebraska in 1868 at
3 years old.
He is seen here after fishing for bluegill
and crappies with his two sons-in-law.
At left is Floyd Hecht, who married A.T.'s
daughter, Jessie Wilson. Floyd was the
manager of the Farmer's Co-op and a judge
of Frontier County.
At center is son-in-law George Hollister,
who married daughter, Neva Wilson. He
was a disabled military veteran.
A.T. lived to be 100 years old.
