Trapping near Fremont,
1981
Mark Denny, at right,
and I were both from
Fremont and ran our
trapline in the mornings
before school. We did the
skinning in the evenings.
These raccoons and mink
were among the animals
we caught.

72 Mallard Drakes on the Main Loup River,
1935
My grandfather, Lavern "Curly" Jacobsen, at
left, Virgil Welsh, at right, and Dr. Leschinsky,
taking the photo, shot 72 mallard drakes and one
goose on the Main Loup River between Palmer
and Fullerton. At that time, the limit was 35
ducks a piece.
Curly taught his children and grandchildren
to hunt, fish and love the outdoors. He served on
the Game Commission for a period of time and
was instrumental in the building of Sherman
Reservoir, even donating the water rights to the
project. Virgil owned Citizens Bank. Both resided
in St. Paul. Dr. Leschinsky was a dentist in Grand
Island.
