40 Nebraskaland • March 2023 Outdoor Nebraska By Renae Blum Spring has arrived. This month, you can look forward to some marvelous photography and fi shing opportunities. Don't forget to prepare for spring turkey season! N Photograph Lake Minatare's lighthouse All month | Lake Minatare State Recreation Area Lake Minatare's landmark lighthouse was a beacon of hope in the dark days of the Great Depression, built entirely of native stone between 1937 and 1939 by the Veterans Conservation Corps Camp BR-1. Designed to simulate a lighthouse, it is the only such structure in Nebraska. Take advantage of the warm light early and late in the day to shoot a photograph of this unique place. JUSTIN HAAG, NEBRASKALAND Prepare for spring turkey season All month | Statewide Well ahead of spring turkey season, use the online Public Access Atlas to fi nd a place to hunt or secure permission to hunt on private land. Then get to know your hunting spot by walking it and locating places where turkeys are likely to roost, strut and feed. Also check through your gear, including calls, clothes and vests, and get any replacements early so you're ready to go. JENNY NGUYEN-WHEATLEY, NEBRASKALAND
