PORTRAITS FROM THE PAST
Deer hunting near Oconto, 1985
From the late 1970s into the early 2000s, many days were filled with hunting anything from dove, duck, geese, pheasant,
turkey and whitetail. These photos were taken approximately November 1985 northeast of Oconto in central Nebraska. In
the photo (left to right) are Jim Stumpf (my dad), Pete Hess and Quentin Moore. Not pictured is Tom Moore (Quentin's son),
who harvested the fourth whitetail buck and took this photo. These guys would travel most of the state and venture into
Wyoming, Colorado, Utah and Alaska. Pete and Quentin are now hunting in the great outdoors in heaven and are missed here,
but not forgotten. It's a shame they didn't take more pictures. Dad would be thrilled.

Catfishing at Two Rivers, circa 1979
Your October 2022 issue is another keeper. The
catfish picture got me to consider a family photo
from the 1970s.
Uncle Mick Stewart is displaying the trout he and
nephew, Bob Hladik Jr., caught at Two Rivers trout
lake circa 1979.
Today, Mick and Bob's dad, Bob Hladik Sr. (me),
encourage first-time anglers to join them at Mick
and Bob's Fall Fish Camps at area lakes.
