What to Do in November
Work on completing the
Trout Slam
Throughout the month | Various locations
Fall is one of the best times to work on completing the
Nebraska Trout Slam — which you can do by catching,
photographing and submitting a photo of Nebraska's four
trout species. Rainbow trout were stocked in urban and
park waters in October, as were some cutthroat trout,
and trout can be found in cold-water streams in the
northern and western regions of the state. Learn more at

Bring home a
pheasant for
Thanksgiving
Throughout the month | Statewide
Get out and enjoy Nebraska's upland bird
hunting tradition this fall — and see if
you can bring home a pheasant for the
Thanksgiving table. They're tasty and
easy to cook — and if you don't harvest
enough for the main dish, try pheasant
poppers for appetizers. A rooster's long tail
feathers will also add a vibrant touch to your
Thanksgiving centerpiece.

Look for bird nests
while hiking
Throughout the month
Statewide
While you're enjoying a hike on a crisp
fall day, keep your eyes peeled for birds'
nests. You could even bring along a
nest fi eld guide and try to identify
what species built the nests you see.
Get up close and look at how the nest
was constructed, what materials were
used and where the nest was placed —
all interesting insights into the world
of our feathered friends.
