June 2024 • Nebraskaland 21 TOP LEFT: Creyton Cumpston of Litchfield fishes from the footbridge over the inlet at Sherman Reservoir State Recreation Area. Spring fishing at the inlet for white bass, walleyes and more can be excellent. BOTTOM LEFT: Boaters drop anchor and float the day away in one of Sherman's coves. BELOW: Cottonwoods and other trees line the shores of Sherman, their roots exposed by erosion that occurs during the short time each spring that the reservoir is at full pool. When the lake is full, these roots are submerged and provide habitat for crappies and other fish.
