What to Do in June
Attend a bioblitz
June 21, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. | Ponca State Park
If you enjoy exploring nature, this event is for you. A bioblitz allows you to
work alongside wildlife experts, discovering and documenting as many plant
and animal species as possible in a single location across a short period of
time. No experience is necessary, all ages are welcome, and the data you collect
contributes to real scientifi c research. Bring water, sunscreen and bug spray, and
dress for the outdoors, with comfortable walking shoes. For details on diff erent
sessions throughout the day, see the calendar entry at
Calendar.OutdoorNebraska.gov.

Catch smallmouth bass in
the Missouri River
Peak is May and June
Northeastern Nebraska
The Missouri River in northeastern Nebraska —
specifi cally the stretch above Lewis and Clark Lake
— is considered the best smallmouth bass fi shery in
the state, and right now is a peak time to catch them.
As they prepare to spawn, the bass will be relatively
shallow, active and easier to catch. Bring your boat
and have fun exploring this wild stretch of river,
which changes constantly, forever providing new
things to fi nd.
