JUNE 2016 • NEBRASKAland 31 Eugene T. Mahoney State Park Eastern Nebraska There's always something going on at Eugene T. Mahoney State Park, making it a fun place to grab shots of people and outdoor activities. Kurrus noted that wildlife is easier to photograph at Mahoney. "Deer, turkey and other species seem to stand still just a little longer than they do at private locations," he said. "They're used to people being around, but are still in a natural setting." The observation tower offers an impressive view of the Platte, which is particularly spectacular in full autumn color. A number of lakes and hiking trails also afford good photography opportunities. Indian Cave State Park Southeastern Nebraska Curled around the Missouri River, Indian Cave State Park offers gorgeous views of the river, a beautiful hardwood forest and an impressive trail system. You have to hunt a bit to find the vistas, but you don't need them to get a good photograph. "Here, you can think 'micro' instead of 'macro,'" Fowler said. "You can find some really cool compositions in the trees and the interesting rock formations." PHOTO BY ERIC FOWLER PHOTO BY JEFF KURRUS
